November 15, 2017

This sun room was in dire need of paint, and generally, needed to finally be finished! I have been staring at rough window trim for a little too long.....very asylum-esque. It took me two days but I tackled the beast. Fresh paint and furniture and once more it is a sunny destination! The paint colour........white, of course..:)

November 13, 2017

I love reaching yet another step towards completion! The sheer relief in crossing another off the list. I can say in all honesty, this project is almost done :) I can also hold good on my promise to the home tour committee. It will actually happen this spring! Thank... heavens.............Is it too early for a glass of wine?
Another project finished (from an endless list of projects)

There will be a little shed next to the north driveway for the recycling....eventually...

This was just in street parking from November to April...........that was close ...:(

November 7, 2017

I had to load up my shopping bags and get busy. And, yes, I went back to Michael Penneys' store and I am really glad I did. Stuff is flying out of there! There are hardly any more little decorative houses and churches left (see previous blog post)

delightful shopping bags awaiting a trip under my stairs

delightful purchases.
It takes a village, people.............

November 3, 2017

Look at all the trimmings! I couldn't wait for MichaelPenney to get his Christmas stuff in! I was there the first day.  They closed Halloween day to prepare for their holiday products, and while not everything was fully out yet, (I may or may not have purchased from shipping boxes) I managed to get a few things.  Am I going back?............yes.. :)

I love hallways.
I have no idea why. Maybe it's the transition aspect, and the leading up to something? My pinterest board for hallways is overflowing with examples! Our next build (yes, you did hear that right. But not imminent) will pay particular attention to them. I already know a beautiful hallway will dissect the new house. I can't wait!
But, until then, these 100+ year old hallways will do the trick just fine..... :)
The only hint of colour in the house
Farrow & Ball Cornforth White

White. Obvi.

This gorgeous old hallway is 5 ft wide. Bless.

Is it kind of weird, that the following photos depict my shopping habits? And, that I kind of like it?

October 2, 2017

I love to see a room come together and feel complete. I am wrapping up a kitchen design that went from well below potential, to spectacular! It's a nice feeling :) I don't know why the majority of designing I do is about kitchens. My kitchen was just in a commercial, its airing on TV right now, but you would never know it was mine. One day for decisions, one day for construction, one day for shooting. Four seconds of my unidentifiable was a journey :)

Oh what a wonderful world.............

September 29, 2017

Well that was a difference in temperature today. I would have liked the change to be a littler subtler, but there you go. It makes you want to get cozy and hibernate! But that will come soon enough.......

You see! White can be cozy........

September 28, 2017

"Guess what this is". Sadly, this is not the game, but yet another bedroom. I will give you some clues though.
Floor. Happily, it is completely done  :)

Wall. Taped and mudded, just needs paint  :)

Trim. Not around entire window. No happy face.

September 27, 2017

It's very exciting! There are two bathrooms finally done on the second floor. We managed to squeeze in a tiny ensuite in the south bedroom under the eaves. Tiny........but totally big enough :)

Yes, the faucet is missing in the shower.......but that is only for the dog, and she is perfectly content to wait to bathe.
And yes, the light fixture is not done yet. That will take a lot of looking because its such a tight spot and only a certain size will fit. But these are first world problems.....I have nothing to complain about :)

September 26, 2017

40 degrees with the humidex is crazy weather for fall! I'll take it though. Especially since its going back down by Thursday. Staying inside because of the heat does force things to get done :)  Hello to a main bathroom that meets those requirements. Done. You will probably start to see a recurring theme of absolute lack of colour. I have been staring at unfinished walls for so long I cannot help but paint them white! Its clean, like the driven snow.......

I know you can see the trim.........shhhhhh

September 25, 2017

It's not the destination.
It's the journey.
We always forget that.
These past eight years of this (at times very tiresome renovation) I often lost scope of the journey, instead focusing on the end result. But, as I reflect on the last few years, so much has happened on the way to the destination!
Each year, throughout it all, life happened. There have been dog walks and unfortunately dog loses, the start of school for the first time, vacations, family visits, celebrations, and yes, more renovations. I'd like to think I have finally realized not to focus on the end result so much, but instead, on everything that has happened during.
I kind of like that much better....

I am once again inspired by the journey and the completion of so many parts of the renovation! Many photos to follow of all things finally hit with the pretty stick, filming (yes, very exciting my kitchen is on television as I type), and I can finally say yes to the home tour committee.
All good things......

RIP sweet little Turk

Day 248

Happy New Year!  I love a new beginning :)  How great to start it with a freshly decorated room.  We managed to get some of the architectural detail in before the Christmas rush (you know I am all about the trimmings).  The bookcase went up fairly quickly and it was exactly what this room needed to focus it.  A room with four doorways and a bump out window is a tricky thing to navigate from a design stand point.  But I think we did it justice!

The right side of the doorway will have a smaller bookcase to balance out the opening.  Don't pay any attention to the construction tools and materials in the other room..........I have seen them for so long........I hardly know they are there.  Hardly.......... :(

Day 247

The calm of the season has arrived back again.  Winter walks in the woods, playing with new toys, all things quiet after the bustle.  This was not the scene a week ago when we were busily finishing off painting in time for holiday celebrations!  We had a great time, lots of friends and family, and now I get to basque in the glow of a finished room :)  Pictures next post of something finally finished......... :)

Day 246

More sanding, lots of dust, tons of manual labour :(  On a happy note it wasn't me doing it! (Poor S)  Good things will come of this.......we will have a painted living room, something ordinary people take for granted.  Yes, you need to  do a lot of work before you can hit something with the pretty stick.  He can continue to make things beautiful in the house, and I will make things beautiful in packages.........really, it's just a win, win........ for me anyway :)

Day 245

My flower child tree hugging side has come out in this blog post.  They were  culling the trees in the woods and left some of the babies to die :(.  To be fair it is an invasive variety and they wanted to keep the meadows open for the species that inhabit those areas.  I couldn't resist saving them!  They look beautiful in water and hopefully they will keep until the spring when I will plant them at the back of our property :)  Very inexpensive (free) decorating for Christmas, and lovely.  My unpainted laundry room is somehow transformed by these branches............... somehow.  I did purchase something from my favourite garden centre, beautiful dried cotton.  They look like little branches of snow and I love them!  It's Christmas decorating time........................ let the games begin...... :)

Day 244

 Have I been looking left?
A much needed sojourn to London has rekindled my design eye!  Talk about inspiration :)  Not wanting to post photos from the mundane tasks that inch us forward I have been quite literally, at a stand still.  Ten days abroad in a country dripping in details has kicked my design mojo into overdrive.  I knew the house needed lots of "icing" as I like to call it.  You know when a house oozes in trim?  I have come back loaded with ideas and cannot wait to bring them to fruition!  And, I'm on a time line, because for this Christmas I want most everything done (I am willing to concede the basement for early spring.  Decent of me, right?)    I have new found treasures from wonderful little shops, and loads of photos, a few of which will get framed and hung up, that I can use :)  Tea was the word over there, so it is nice to come home to a newer and better coffee maker (well done Krups).
As I type this blog post I am sipping a coffee, pen in hand, notebook at the ideas are flowing.... :)
Tomorrow, the coffee, pen and notebook are coming with me, to another city oozing in details of all things good.............. hello Charleston!
Bye for now :)
