February 27, 2018

I had "instagrammed" a photo of an appetizer I had made and a lot of people asked for the recipe! Here it is (and I am completely embarrassed at how easy it is) but delicious for sure :)

Broiled Feta

A slab of feta (choose the size based on the people enjoying)
2 chopped green onions
fresh rosemary and oregano
2 chopped roma tomatoes
salt and pepper to taste (easy on the salt as the feta is salty already.....as you know)
olive oil

Lay the feta on a sheet pan lined with foil. Add the chopped ingredients and the herbs and seasoning. Drizzle with olive oil (a good glug)
Broil until warmed through and smelling delicious.
Serve with crusty bread.

And yes..........thats it.
Enjoy :)

February 22, 2018

Full ahead to change.

There is a lot of change in the air.  Heavy fog, while hard to drive in, signals a change in the seasons. Shout out to Spring for throwing better temperatures our way :)
Another great change is that this 8 year renovation (which makes me much older than when we started.....ugh) is almost completed. Looking back on the first few posts literally makes my stomach turn.  Go ahead and take a look, you'll see what I mean.  Would I do this again? You're thinking no, and I agree, to a point. I would not take on a whole house demo/reno like this one, but we did save a 110+ year old house from falling into the ground, (It really was tipping forward into the ground from the basement on up) and I love that fact. The saving, not the tipping. And while I am itching to do a new project, it will never be one this extensive.
Its been so long and I've only just stuck my head up to notice there are so many other things I want to do too. And with spring on  the horizon I am recharged!
I plan on paying more attention to my writing and focusing on new content for this blog is one of them.
Hooray for Spring!

Friday December 8, 2107

It's early morning and quiet in the house. Just the way I like it! A lot of thinking can get done when it's quiet, along with a few photos... :)

Flecks of orange
(which I am obsessed with right now)

It has been pointed out that I have an "animal head" problem..............more proof to follow..... :(

Old timey green = pretty

December 5, 2017

I'm happy to report all things "holiday" are falling into place. I feel a tiny bit ahead of schedule, but I know if I say that just a little too loudly.........a snowstorm of things I have forgotten will pour down. Does it matter? Not really :)

I was shopping with a friend this weekend and came across this enchanting house. A little obsessed with all the village themed decorations out this year, mayhap? I really loved it but  a person can only purchase so much without becoming the poster boy for the "She used to be so normal....." club :(  Fabulously, it came into my possession anyway.......like a little Christmas miracle. You know who you are........... :)

Let it glow

Who needs diamonds? :)

December 1, 2017

The time is really moving quickly! The parking lots are always full now, and it will get even busier. I thought I would slow down a little and appreciate the things I already have. Don't get me wrong. I'm excited for all the wonderful things that will be happening this month, but I really appreciate the smaller bits. A great lunch with a friend this week, tiny guy staring at his advent calendar, the dog sleeping by the fire................. it's all good :)

A beautiful start to the day

a quiet space

Enjoy your day :)

November 20, 2017

The time is flying quickly, so I have begun to decorate to stay ahead of everything (It's going to be a busy season). I'm no where near making any progress, but it's in the doing............isn't it?...... :)
Baby steps.........literally

How to trap a village

I mean, this is nature in all its perfection

I really hope to move further ahead this week!

November 15, 2017

This sun room was in dire need of paint, and generally, needed to finally be finished! I have been staring at rough window trim for a little too long.....very asylum-esque. It took me two days but I tackled the beast. Fresh paint and furniture and once more it is a sunny destination! The paint colour........white, of course..:)

a little bit better
a place to sit

dog friendly

sunshine :)

November 13, 2017

I love reaching yet another step towards completion! The sheer relief in crossing another off the list. I can say in all honesty, this project is almost done :) I can also hold good on my promise to the home tour committee. It will actually happen this spring! Thank... heavens.............Is it too early for a glass of wine?
Another project finished (from an endless list of projects)

There will be a little shed next to the north driveway for the recycling....eventually...

This was just in time............no street parking from November to April...........that was close ...:(

November 7, 2017

I had to load up my shopping bags and get busy. And, yes, I went back to Michael Penneys' store and I am really glad I did. Stuff is flying out of there! There are hardly any more little decorative houses and churches left (see previous blog post)

delightful shopping bags awaiting a trip under my stairs

delightful purchases.
It takes a village, people.............

November 3, 2017

Look at all the trimmings! I couldn't wait for MichaelPenney to get his Christmas stuff in! I was there the first day.  They closed Halloween day to prepare for their holiday products, and while not everything was fully out yet, (I may or may not have purchased from shipping boxes) I managed to get a few things.  Am I going back?............yes.. :)

October 5, 2017

I love hallways.
I have no idea why. Maybe it's the transition aspect, and the leading up to something? My pinterest board for hallways is overflowing with examples! Our next build (yes, you did hear that right. But not imminent) will pay particular attention to them. I already know a beautiful hallway will dissect the new house. I can't wait!
But, until then, these 100+ year old hallways will do the trick just fine..... :)
The only hint of colour in the house
Farrow & Ball Cornforth White

White. Obvi.

This gorgeous old hallway is 5 ft wide. Bless.

Is it kind of weird, that the following photos depict my shopping habits? And, that I kind of like it?

October 2, 2017

I love to see a room come together and feel complete. I am wrapping up a kitchen design that went from well below potential, to spectacular! It's a nice feeling :) I don't know why the majority of designing I do is about kitchens. My kitchen was just in a commercial, its airing on TV right now, but you would never know it was mine. One day for decisions, one day for construction, one day for shooting. Four seconds of my unidentifiable kitchen...........it was a journey :)

Oh what a wonderful world.............

September 29, 2017

Well that was a difference in temperature today. I would have liked the change to be a littler subtler, but there you go. It makes you want to get cozy and hibernate! But that will come soon enough.......

You see! White can be cozy........

September 28, 2017

"Guess what this is". Sadly, this is not the game, but yet another bedroom. I will give you some clues though.
Floor. Happily, it is completely done  :)

Wall. Taped and mudded, just needs paint  :)

Trim. Not around entire window. No happy face.

September 27, 2017

It's very exciting! There are two bathrooms finally done on the second floor. We managed to squeeze in a tiny ensuite in the south bedroom under the eaves. Tiny........but totally big enough :)

Yes, the faucet is missing in the shower.......but that is only for the dog, and she is perfectly content to wait to bathe.
And yes, the light fixture is not done yet. That will take a lot of looking because its such a tight spot and only a certain size will fit. But these are first world problems.....I have nothing to complain about :)

September 26, 2017

40 degrees with the humidex is crazy weather for fall! I'll take it though. Especially since its going back down by Thursday. Staying inside because of the heat does force things to get done :)  Hello to a main bathroom that meets those requirements. Done. You will probably start to see a recurring theme of absolute lack of colour. I have been staring at unfinished walls for so long I cannot help but paint them white! Its clean, like the driven snow.......

I know you can see the trim.........shhhhhh

September 25, 2017

It's not the destination.
It's the journey.
We always forget that.
These past eight years of this (at times very tiresome renovation) I often lost scope of the journey, instead focusing on the end result. But, as I reflect on the last few years, so much has happened on the way to the destination!
Each year, throughout it all, life happened. There have been dog walks and unfortunately dog loses, the start of school for the first time, vacations, family visits, celebrations, and yes, more renovations. I'd like to think I have finally realized not to focus on the end result so much, but instead, on everything that has happened during.
I kind of like that much better....

I am once again inspired by the journey and the completion of so many parts of the renovation! Many photos to follow of all things finally hit with the pretty stick, filming (yes, very exciting my kitchen is on television as I type), and I can finally say yes to the home tour committee.
All good things......

RIP sweet little Turk
