Day 74

Thank goodness for shady trees! It was a very HOT day, but the trees allowed for a better building environment :) As you can see, the deck portion of the front porch is 99% complete. There are no stairs yet ( the knees could feel this fact after the 100th time). They will probably be in stone to compliment the walkway (not done) that connects the north and south driveways. It is yet to be determined! It might not be as clear from the photos, but the deck really grounds the house. Where it seemed to be floating and disconnected from it's environment before, it now looks much more anchored! The next step of adding the porch roof with tie all of the elements together (oh and look really cool too). This is the first of three porches that will be added to the house. We have rethought the garage which was originally going to be attached to the north side of the house. (A big reason to live in a project as you go to get the feel of how it should flow). Instead there will be another porch on that side and we will extend the driveway down the back to a separate "carriage house" type structure. That will look amazing :) For now the first porch is almost done, and we call this the ma and pa porch.........because that is what we feel like when we sit on it :) Enjoy the rest of this long weekend!
