Nook storage :) This used to be the entrance to the storage under the stairs. It just didn't make sense to keep yet another door in a room with four other entrance zones! We removed this door and instead built a beautiful cabinet. It isn't quite finished (a re-occuring theme in our house), as it still needs a set of doors which will be glass on the top half and solid on the bottom. It provides great hidden storage for things like stereos and such in the lower half and the top half can hold some of the better china pieces we have (remarkably unbroken in the two year storage box!) We will have two glass shelves up top just for this purpose. Anytime you do built-in's in rooms it accomplishes many things. Beautiful detail, great storage and I think, visually expands any room. Your eye is immediately drawn to those type of details. So all in all, a pretty good long weekend...............and a dining room starts to grow :)
